ABOUT CSANT
CSANT was founded in 1983 by three cardiothoracic surgeons, Drs. Gary Gosdin, Michael Mack, and Larry Schorn, who had a vision for a private practice atmosphere with an academic approach. Since that time, our practice has grown to one of Texas' largest specialty group practices, with more than 50 physicians specializing in all areas of cardiovascular care. We provide cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, transplantation services, and national research studies to patients throughout the North Texas area. Indeed, because of their vast experience and advanced specialty training, our experts treat patients from around the world.
In the late 1980's we initiated the development of a managed care department to facilitate contracting and operations with major managed care companies. As a result of our quality management and managed care programs, CSANT has reduced the length of hospital stay for many of our patients while improving care. We now provide services to over seventy managed care organizations and have service agreements with several Fortune 500 companies.
We have been innovative in working with hospitals. During 1992 and 1993, we combined our extensive outcomes information and our managed care experience in a project to review operating protocols at five major metroplex hospitals. CSANT's objective was to modify the behavior of physicians and hospital personnel to become more cost effective. Significant progress was made in reducing the length of stay despite an increased patient risk profile. In 1996, we were awarded participation in Aetna's National Cardiac Care Program. Less than twenty institutions, nationally, have received this distinction.
Our cardiology services were incorporated into the practice in 1994. CSANT cardiologists provide a full range of invasive, non-invasive and nuclear services. In 2005, we introduced CT angiography into one cardiology office, and have initiated plans to expand this technology into several more clinics.
CSANT is committed to quality and has maintained a database of over 30,000 heart surgeries over the last twenty-three years, with cardiology outcomes added in 1995. CSANT participates in the National Database endorsed by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, which contains over one million heart surgeries. We constantly review our outcome information and strive for constant quality improvement.
Our specialists helped establish the heart transplant program at Medical City Dallas in 1994 and lung transplantation in 1996. Since 2005, a team of cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons has been working to establish a heart hospital in Plano. And, in 2006, a member of our cardiology team was selected to lead efforts to develop the first heart program in Las Colinas.
Indeed, CSANT has seen tremendous growth over the last twenty-three years. We look forward to many more...serving our patients, doctors, employees, and the community.
